Plymouth

The City of Plymouth lies at the mouth of the River Tamar that forms the border between Devon and Cornwall. The grassy knolls of Plymouth Hoe are famous for Sir Francis Drake, knowing the tides were unfavourable, casually finishing his game of bowls before descending to his ship to confront the Spanish Armada. Visit Plymouth Dome, tucked beneath the Hoe, and experience the sounds and smells of the past and present. The town is also very historic, you can walk down the cobble streets of the Barbican - yet it is also a shopaholics dream.

The area surrounding Plymouth is known as the South Hams. It covers some 340 square miles of England's most beautiful coast and countryside scenery. The southerly location and warm Gulf Stream air ensures one of the mildest climates in the whole of Britain. The South Hams area contains the historic towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury and Ivybridge.
