Eating Out around Flete;
The Oyster Shack is a firm favourite in the area with locally caught excellent seafood and a fun atmosphere. It is on the way to Kingsbridge on the A379 and it takes around 20 – 30 minutes to get there from Flete. It is always worth booking in advance as they are normally quite busy (01548 810 876).
The Rose & Crown pub serves excellent gastro-pub food as well as having a comprehensive bar menu, good wine list and local ales. It is only 10 - 15 minutes from Flete in Yealmpton Village and opens for lunch 12pm – 2pm and dinner 6pm to 9pm (and all-day on Sunday). They have a wonderful open fire that’s worth a visit in itself! Call to book a table on 01752 880 223 or just turn up and bag a table in the bar area.
The Ship Inn in Noss Mayo has the most wonderful waterfront location and scrumptious food – if very big portions! The menu changes daily and features lots of local produce. They are open all day from 12pm to 9.30pm for lunch, afternoon tea, a cheeky pint and dinner. Call on 01752 872 387 to book the restaurant upstairs or drop in to dine in the downstairs bar area or waterfront terrace. Noss Mayo is around 15 minutes from Flete and well worth a walk when you get there too – stunning estuary.
A good pub to visit after a Dartmoor walk is The Forrest Inn near Hexworthy. The owners James and Irene and the team are always welcoming and they have an ever-changing blackboard menu which you can enjoy from 12pm-2pm & from 7pm-9pm daily. Their number is 01364 631 211 to book & they are dog (and mud!) friendly so the perfect stop off after a Dartmoor walk and around an hour from Flete.
Riverford Farm Café is just outside Yealmpton near Kitley House around 15 minutes from Flete. They have a great kitchen there and produce home-made pasties tarts, cakes and best of all, cream teas! There is a wonderful farm shop there selling organic and local produce making it well worth a visit. Open from 9am for breakfast (perfect for lazy bacon butties) right through to 6pm (10am – 4pm on Sunday).
My New Favourite Place; ‘Vintage Tea’ is situated at the bottom of the high street in Totnes. It is a fun fusion of interior design shop & vintage tea room serving traditional high tea. Totnes is a vibrant little town with a real focus on home grown produce and an ‘alternative’ edge to it. Great clothes shopping, vintage furniture and interior shopping and friendly local butchers and grocers, so definitely worth a day trip.
